The River City Big Band is a group of musicians
from the metropolitan Edmonton area, dedicated to presenting the music
that defined the big band genre and also committed to exploring the
emerging trends in contemporary big band music.
It is a privilege to stand in front of the ensemble, as its director,
and I am excited to be part of the development of the group’s potential.

The River City Big Band is one of the premier jazz organizations in Edmonton, Alberta.

Our members all share a common enthusiasm for big band jazz.  The music we perform spans from the classics of the big band era through to the modern repertoire of today.

In addition to getting together to play for the sheer exhilaration of making music, we perform in a variety of settings throughout the community including jazz festivals, featured concerts and with guest artists, private functions and school events.

The RCBB is pleased to present the sixth Jazz at the Oasis concert with feature artist Eric Marienthal.

Marienthal is a 2 time Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles-based contemporary saxophonist best known for his work in the jazz, jazz fusion, smooth jazz and pop genres. He has 7 Grammy nominations and is also a member of the Chick Corea Elektric Band and Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band.

Having performed in over 70 countries and played on hundreds of CD's films and TV shows, Marienthal has recorded 14 solo CD's including his latest entitled "Bridges" with guitarist Chuck Loeb. His CD's have produced several top 10 radio singles including three #1's.

Marienthal is the recipient of the Berklee College Of Music Distinguished Alumnus Award for outstanding achievements in contemporary music; and was also named one of the top 3 alto saxophonists in Jazziz Magazine's Reader's Poll along with Phil Woods and David Sanborn.

For the past 19 years, Marienthal has organized an annual charity concert for the High Hopes Head Injury Program in Tustin, CA. These concerts have raised awareness for this great organization and have raised over 1.5 million dollars.

As this unprecedented situation surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic evolves, caring for the safety and well-being of our musicians and our fans has been and always will be the RCBB’s most important priority, especially during challenging times like these.

For the time being, we have cancelled all future concerts as schools and public facilities are now closed.

We will be rescheduling our concerts dates, hopefully, for the fall 2020. Please check back for updates.

We wish everyone the best health and safety during this difficult time, and we look forward to returning to the stage as soon as possible.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and take care of each other.
